About Library

The Library has over 25,000 books on Social Science including subjects encompassing Politics, Economics, Labour, Trade Unionism, Human rights, etc. Several complete sets of Parliamentary Hansards are also available from the late 1930s (State Council days) to 1975.

The Reference Section is open to academics, research students and others who are interested in these subjects, free of charge.

The Library is open from 9.30a.m. to 4.30p.m. from Monday to Friday excluding Public and Mercantile holidays. Interested persons could contact the Director or Librarian for further information to use the reference section of the Library on telephone 0094-11-2691891.

Library Rules

GENERAL
There are at present approximately 25,000 books in the Library of the Dr. N. M. Perera Centre. The majority of these books are on Social Sciences, Politics, Economics, Labour, Trade Unions and related subjects. However some books on Arts, Culture, History, and Literature etc. too are available.

LIBRARY HOURS
The Library is open from 09.30 am to 4.30 p.m through Monday to Friday. It will remain closed on weekends and Public and Mercantile  holidays.

MEMBERSHIP

  • The Membership of the Dr. N. M. Perera Centre is open to all persons above the age of 16 years subject to acceptance by the Board of Trustees of the Dr. N. M. Perera Memorial Trust Fund (or its duly appointed nominee).
  • The Annual Membership Fee shall be Rs.100/- and is payable in advance.
  • Applications for Membership should be made in the form prescribed for the purpose together with a remittance to cover one year's Membership Fee.
  • A Membership Card will be issued to each member on enrolment. This Card will be valid for one year from the date of issue or until such other date as indicated therein.
  • Members are eligible to participate in all activities organized or sponsored by the Dr. N. M. Perera Centre, such as meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops on topical subjects etc. and to use the Research Library by producing the Membership Card.

ADMISSION
Members of the Dr. N. M. Perera Centre are admitted to the Library on productions of their Membership Cards. Students and casual visitors may be allowed on a special permit issued by the Librarian. Members Visitors are not allowed to take inside the library their personal belonging such as brief cases, shopping bags, umbrellas etc, which may be kept in the place provided at the entrance. A pencil or ball point pen and note book however can be taken inside if necessary.

USE OF LIBRARY

BOOKS AND DOCUMENTS
This is essentially a Reference and a Research Library. No books or other documents are permitted to be taken away from the Library. Readers are strictly prohibited from making any marks side lines whatsoever in the books and documents. The assistance of the Librarian may be sought if any Photostat copy is required, for which the cost is payable by the applicant. The books or documents taken from a rack may be kept on the Librarian's table to be suitably replaced.

It is important that all books and documents in the Library are used with extreme care so as to prevent any damage being caused to them

ASSISTANCE
The Library staff will assist the users locating any publication available in the Library.
